Informed Engineering welcomes Andy Purdy to the team. Andy is a highly experienced BIM Manager with over 30 years in the civil engineering and petrochemical sectors.  

Throughout his career, he has played a key role in delivering major infrastructure projects by driving better coordination, collaboration and the effective use of digital technology. Passionate about the power of BIM to streamline project delivery from design through to as-built handover, Andy is known for his practical approach, problem-solving mindset and commitment to continuous improvement.  

In his new role as BIM Manager at Informed Engineering, Andy brings a wealth of hands-on knowledge and a proven track record in supporting teams, enhancing workflows and delivering high-quality outcomes that stand the test of time. 

Here, Andy tells us a little more about his role, experience and insights into the future of BIM and the AEC industry:

How would you summarise your new role at Informed Engineering?

I’m excited to join Informed Engineering as a BIM Manager, bringing over 30 years of experience in the civil engineering and petrochemical sectors. I’m looking forward to contributing to the successful completion and handover of the Tideway West project and to collaborating with the team on future infrastructure developments that drive innovation and digital excellence.

What do you believe are the current challenges in our industry, and how can we overcome them?

One of the key challenges in our industry is getting all subcontractors to work collaboratively within a Common Data Environment (CDE) to achieve a fully coordinated project. Too often, the as-built process is treated as an afterthought rather than an integral part of project delivery — an area that deserves greater investment and structured planning. Additionally, temporary works coordination remains an aspect that would benefit from more consistent integration within the BIM and digital project workflows to ensure safety, accuracy and long-term efficiency.

What added value do you bring to your projects?

I bring over 30 years of hands-on experience in civil engineering and petrochemical projects, with a real passion for using BIM to connect teams and improve how projects are delivered. I take pride in helping bring structure to complex designs — making sure information flows smoothly, models stay coordinated and everyone works effectively within a Common Data Environment. I’m especially focused on improving the as-built process and temporary works coordination, because I believe investing in these areas leads to better outcomes, safer projects and stronger collaboration across the board.

What is your proudest career moment?

My proudest moment has been being part of the Tideway project from the very beginning — starting in the planning phase, contributing through the tender and delivery stages, and seeing it all come together at handover with the completion of the as-built model. Being involved throughout the entire lifecycle of such a major infrastructure project has been incredibly rewarding and it’s a real point of pride to know I played a part in delivering something of lasting value to the city and the industry.

Name any project worldwide you wish you had worked on and explain why.

One project I would have loved to be part of is the 2012 Olympic Park. It was a landmark achievement that showcased the best of engineering, design and collaboration in the UK. Beyond the technical excellence, I admired how it transformed an area of London and left a legacy for the country — something every engineer and project professional aspires to contribute to.
