// Helping specialist contractors deliver confidently on one of Britain's most complex rail infrastructure programmes.

Old Oak Common Station is a major transport interchange within the HS2 programme and one of the UK’s largest railway station developments. Delivering a project of this scale requires every organisation within the supply chain to meet rigorous engineering and information management standards while remaining focused on its own specialist expertise.

Working for DMC Contracts, a specialist contractor responsible for flooring and finishes, Informed Engineering provided the digital engineering and information management support needed to deliver fully compliant construction information within the wider HS2 programme. The project demanded digital deliverables that met strict client requirements without requiring the contractor to develop specialist in-house BIM capability.

Informed Engineering acted as an extension of the DMC project team, translating complex information requirements into coordinated digital models and construction drawings that integrated seamlessly with the wider programme. The team developed detailed models for flooring, drainage interfaces, access covers, electrical provisions and associated construction elements while representing the contractor during technical coordination meetings and advising on information management, clash detection and digital delivery. All information was developed using ProjectWise and OpenBuildings Designer in accordance with the project’s required standards.

As the design progressed, developing the digital models to the required level of detail identified opportunities to refine elements of the original design before construction commenced. This improved constructability, resolved coordination issues earlier in the programme and provided greater confidence that the finished design could be delivered efficiently on site.

By managing the complexity of digital delivery, Informed Engineering enabled DMC Contracts to focus on its specialist construction expertise while remaining confident that its engineering information satisfied the demanding standards of one of Britain’s most significant infrastructure projects. The result was a coordinated digital delivery approach that reduced risk, simplified compliance and ensured trusted information supported construction from design through to installation.
