// Delivering trusted digital engineering for one of the UK's most significant infrastructure programmes

The Thames Tideway Tunnel is transforming the environmental future of London. Designed to capture sewage overflows before they reach the River Thames, it is one of the most significant infrastructure programmes undertaken in the United Kingdom. Delivering a project of this scale required more than engineering excellence. It depended on trusted information that enabled thousands of people, multiple organisations and thousands of assets to work together with confidence.

Working on the West Section for the BMB Joint Venture comprising BAM Nuttall Ltd, Morgan Sindall Plc and Balfour Beatty Group Limited, Informed Engineering played a key role in establishing the information management framework that supported delivery across a complex multi contractor environment.

The team authored the BIM Execution Plan, defined employer aligned information requirements and established structured Common Data Environment governance, asset centric modelling standards and end to end information management processes. Asset tagging strategies, structured redline to as built workflows and digital delivery standards ensured information remained accurate, traceable and aligned with operational requirements throughout the project lifecycle.

Using Bentley ProjectWise and OpenBuildings Designer, Informed Engineering established a controlled digital environment that enabled validated asset information to move consistently from design through construction and into handover. The programme also included the controlled migration from legacy software to OpenBuildings Designer, maintaining information integrity while supporting long term digital delivery.

Alongside providing strategic Information Management and model delivery coordination, Informed Engineering supported construction delivery over a ten year engagement ensuring a clash free, constructable design was provided to the worksites and records of as-built were accurately collected and delivered.

Informed Engineering supported the Senior Leadership Team on the project with commercial and programme support linked to BIM and Information Management, specifically how that impacted activities related to commissioning. Technical response was provided to formally communicate the issues and Informed Engineering provided context to support the communication as required by the NEC3 contract.

By placing information quality and governance at the centre of delivery, Informed Engineering helped create reliable digital records that extended beyond construction into long term asset management.

The result was a structured information environment that reduced uncertainty, strengthened collaboration and improved operational readiness, ensuring one of the United Kingdom’s most significant environmental infrastructure assets would be supported by trusted information throughout its operational life.
